What on earth comes in 8 courses? I would need a nap part way through.....I imagine it would take forever to eat all that!
I honestly lost track, it should have served two though. For 8 courses I would have expected a bite or two for each, they were like appetizer size.

okay...not to be snarky but veg through second veg equals a single course and I don't think each would be served on an individual plate within a course. Usually sorbet is not counted as a course in itself...but I guess it's a quibble depending on the point you're making...so five courses.
Yeah, I KNOW! I was trying to come up with what 11 or 12 courses could be. I couldn't, so I filled in with sorbet and split up the main meal.
I serve 3 things at big holiday family dinners....appetizers, the main meal with meat, veggies, salads, etc., and dessert. That's it. And actually, I serve buffet style, so people walk around my kitchen and fill their plates with whatever they want and then come back for seconds and thirds of whatever.
I no longer have family birthday dinners for my kids, but when I did, I used disposable everything - table coverings, plates, napkins, forks, cups. Now, I just use disposable table coverings, napkins, and cups for my holiday dinners. It makes clean up SO MUCH easier!
Ick. It's still disposable tableware, and no matter how pretty it is, it's incredibly wasteful.
It makes clean up so easy, though. After spending hours and hours preparing food, I don't want to spend hours and hours washing dishes, napkins, linens. I'd rather visit with the family. And it's only a few times a year on the big dinners.
Lunch every day though....it's a matter of convenience for me.
I'm a little disappointed that this has become a discussion about dishes/containers I meant more than that...

As is washing dishes, silverware, bowls, and cups for 12+ people. So is all the packaging the food we all ate came in. So is having enough dishes for 12+ people that only gets used once or twice a year.

Whoa....that's a TON of food! I was thinking it would be like tapas size - bite size....like 3 maybe 4 bites total....and even that is an overload. Is she still there eating those 8 courses?
You must have quite the storage.....not to mention time to wash and put all of those items away. I can't imagine having an 11 course meal. Who has the time? What on earth could one serve for 11 courses? How much food can people really eat?
In college, an 11 course meal was a 12-pack where you left one beer in the fridge by accident.
I enjoy dining like the Crawleys every now and again.
