This is my problem with carry out, the only things that travel well are pizza, chinese and BBQ, everything else gets cold or soggy. Unfortunately, my wife does not like the mess that cooking makes, and does not prefer sitting in restaurants, so we get carryout 3-4 times per week. Deciding what to pick up is the bane of my existence....

That'll do it. I've ordered delivery when I couldn't feed myself. I think the last time was about a year ago. I was really, really sick and there was no one to take care of me.

We phone in pick up orders at restaurants occasionally. I think the last time we did this was about 2 weeks ago, when I called in an order for a "family meal" from Sardi's (Peruvian chicken place).

Here in the DC metro area, there are quite a few rotisserie/Peruvian chicken restaurants, most of which seem geared to handle as much carry-out as sit-down business. They're a bit like Chinese restaurants in that respect, although many won't actually deliver.

I never did drive thrus or take out until having kids. Then all of a sudden, drive thrus (bank! starbucks!) were a godsend.

Sometimes we will still do take out (order food and then pick it up) because hubby and I want to eat something nice while the kids do not want anything from that place, and so I'll make them something they will eat. Whenever we go out to eat at a restaurant, nothing gets me more mad than ordering the kids food (that they claim they want) and having them try one bite and decide they don't like it.

As I say, I usually drive an entire hour with my take-out and, if packaged to-go correctly, it's just fine when I get home... Guess my palate is not that "discerning"!

Rarely. Delivery is not common, here, outside of cheapo pizza places, and if I'm gonna go pick it up, I might as well just go out to eat, versus drive it back home.

In fact, I can't remember the last time I ordered out that wasn't making the call for a catering delivery to be made at a workplace.

We get delivery every Saturday here, unless people are all out. I wouldn't call a place and pick stuff up. That's more trouble than cooking.

I pretty much never have take-out food delivered. I prefer to go pick it up myself so I have control. It's fairly infrequent. Chinese or Pizza when I'm feeling too antisocial to go sit at the bar and eat it.
