A couple of months. I usually am out of a couple of staples but I wouldn't have to buy much in the event of a incoming storm. I would stock up on drinks, that's for sure.
Probably 2-3 months. We have at least 100 pounds of meat in a second freezer in my office, our refrigerator is stuffed to the gills with condiments and booze (oh, and I think there's milk in there maybe), and our pantry has a lot of canned food, dog food, and dog cookies. Like someone else said, the dogs would have to share the human food with us but we could last a long time, as there is only two people and two dogs in our household.
Probably 3-4 months for my family of five-- and we'd eat pretty well, too!
In our two deep freezers, we have over 150lbs of frozen pork (we buy a whole hog from a local farmer every 6ish months), over 40 lbs of frozen chicken, probably 15-20 lbs of each steak and lamb-- and tons of frozen fruit and veggies-- plus a fully stocked spice cabinet (including vinegars and oils) and a pantry full of beans, rice, canned tomatoes, some pasta, plus baking ingredients. We have a flat top, propane fueled grill with two full propane tanks-- which won't last as long as the food would, but should get us through at least a good week or so without power, if need be.
When we lived in hurricane country, we rarely stocked our freezer up in the summer as we didn't want to run the risk of losing the contents of our freezer-- but now that we live in snow country, we know that if we're to lose power, it would likely be in the winter months and we could always use the outdoors to keep our food frozen, so we tend to stock up in winter when we're both less inclined to run out to the store and when our life gets crazy (two of my kids play travel hockey, so our free time is virtually nil from September-March).
Let's see... I have 2 frozen pizzas, so I'm good until Wednesday. The critters would be good for about 2 weeks. I do have about 70 bottles of Merlot so I can survive about 10 weeks.
I have a chest freezer, so....months. I wouldn't be eating much other than meat after about 2-3 weeks, but....months. The dog and cats would also be sharing that meat with me. The biggest problem that I foresee would be the lack of cat litter....
Where I live we often loose electricity in storms, so we keep dry and canned goods also.
