Growing up I had two favorites: Hershey's chocolate syrup, and Brigham's hot fudge sauce.

The game for chocolate sauce changed when I found this:

Two cups granulated sugar, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, one cup water, and a pinch of salt. Combine in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Whisk for three minutes. Be careful not to let it boil over! Take off the heat and let cool a bit. Then add one teaspoon vanilla extract. Pour into a glass jar or squeeze bottle. Mix a teaspoon (or more) into a cold glass of milk. Will keep for a couple of weeks in the fridge. So much faster than going to the store, and it's super easy. Really, save yourself the trip, and make it at home. You won't regret it. Best chocolate milk I've ever tasted, and the sauce is great over ice cream. Or just spooned straight into your mouth!

I prefer hot fudge, myself. Nice and thick and gooey, and heated up enough to make the ice cream just a little melt-y! Any brand works for me...never met a real hot fudge I didn't like! With real whipped cream!

As a kid, we always had Hershey's. In the can. That's all my husband and son use as well (but they use those new fangled bottles.)

I prefer hot fudge, and always get Smucker's. I also only get Smucker's when I have a hankering for Butterscotch or for Caramel.

The recipe in the Hershey Cocoa cookbook is the best, fresh made.
