I like my steak with mashed potatoes, but I have yet to run into a steakhouse local or chain that can make decent mashed potatoes.

You have to get a baked potato with a steak, that's a rule. Carved in stone from our ancestors.

Anyway, there's a local steakhouse here that makes insanely good mashed potatoes. I have them with chicken fried steak.

lol, jim9251!!

I agree that I can never get a place to make it the way I like so I always make it from scratch at home.

When out at a restaurant, I ALWAYS get a baked potato with my steak...it's something that's been ingrained in me since I first started eating steak as a child/teenager...

Mashed taters with steak?

Get a baked potato, turn it out on your plate load up with butter and sour cream. Get to mashing.

Drives my wife nuts when I do this.

Then I enjoy spreading butter on the skins like bread when they are cold at the end of the meal and popping them in my mouth

They don't make "mashed" potatoes...they make "smashed" potatoes...lumpy, with skin....I can eat them, but they're not my favorite.

Because baked is more in keeping with traditional steakhouse style.

Because I don't work there. I make the best mashed potatoes in the WORLD.

I prefer a baked potato also, in a steakhouse. With a touch of butter and black pepper. My wife makes great mashed potatoes.

I looove mashed potatoes and order them in restaurants, steak or no steak, whenever I get the chance. I blatantly renounce this baked potato rule.

At Red Lobster I usually have shrimp scampi, and after I eat some of my potato, I pour the leftover garlic butter from my shrimp scampi into the potato skin and eat the rest of the potato and skin with the garlic butter. It's delicious!

With steak I never order mashed potatoes; only baked. Mashed potatoes are for fried chicken, chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken.
