Cook up a huge pot of pasta, have several sauces for them to choose from (tomato, white, cheese). Have some italian bread or small rolls to go along with it. This should be relatively cheap to do and within your budget.

Baked ziti, garlic bread. (Various types of pasta dishes with a tiny bit of meat for flavor is probably the easiest way to feed a crowd.)
Chili and rice.
Lentil soup and bread.

Another vote for pasta and something in sauce with bread... but remember not all eat meat, so maybe half the pasta comes without meat. Variations on baked ziti or mac n cheese are good choices.

Other maybes include wimpies/sloppy joes on hamburger rolls with baked beans, stews/soups, even home made pizza (on shells) or bought pizza, or in a twist... an ethnic favorite assorted filled pierogies served with sauteed onions.

Covered/single dish types are easier to handle...

I like all the previous ideas. Here is mine:

1. chicken and dumplings, Whole chicken is very inexpensive, the chicken can be cooked and deboned at home and cook with the carrots/celery/seasoning ahead of time. Just heat at the facility and add bisquick dumplings. You can heat on each of the 4 burners and in crock pots.

2. Chicken and rice, Start with the cheap deboned chicken and add to cooked rice, and small pieces of a precooked vegetable of your choice, peas, carrots, etc. Stir in cans cream of whatever (mushroom, celery) soup until creamy and moist. Top with cheese. Heat in the crock pots. Serve with a lettuce or fruit salad.

3. Mac and cheese or lasagna

I'd do a bunch of salads — green salad. fruit salad, pasta salad, tuna salad, egg salad, etc. A big basket of several kinds of bread. Muffins if you can afford it. As long as you chop ahead of time you can probably assemble everything in the AM.

I cook for 50 people every Friday, I do however have the option of ordering alot of food from a distribution service..
I get all of my perishable food from Sam's club.. (Salad fixins, cheese, milk, butter,)

We do Mac and cheese and kielbasa..
Pot pies and salad
Wings and Rice pilaf
Hot dogs
Burgers
Soup and grilled cheese
Spaghetti and meatballs
Baked ziti
Meatloaf and mashed
Sausage, peppers and onions..
Fish fry, we use a turkey fryer..
I've even done spiral hams when they are on sale...

We keep all meals under 100 dollars
Most come with a veggie and salad..

Most everything I cook is from scratch..
I do use instant mashed, packaged brown gravy, uncle Ben's Rice, and puff pastry..
I finally insisted we get prepared spaghetti sauce because of time constraints..

Taco salad would be my vote. Fruit or tuna salad might be good. Pasta salad can get on the expensive side once you start getting meats and cheeses for it.
