I had been eating Bush's baked for over a decade several times a week for lunch and not considering other options. They tasted great, but all of the varieties available locally have a significant amount of sugar and sodium so I switched to organic, low sodium, no added sugar black beans with some salsa on top. Cost is equivalent and the black beans have a higher fiber content. Only downside I see is the lack of variety in flavor, but I think that can be taken care of with some experimentation. Change is good.

Black beans are delicious! I eat them over white rice with a grilled garlic chicken breast or thigh, or a grilled garlic pork chop.

I could never really like baked beans for that exact reason-too sweet. But I love black beans, they are so good in so many ways. Here's a recipe I just put up for one of the ways we like them:
Big Flavor Black Beans

It is not really a fair comparison - a cooked bean vs. a bean dish. Most of the times that I have been served black beans, they were loaded with ham, onions, and crema to give them some taste.

I love black beans! They're a great side to huevos rancheros, or just scrambled eggs. They're good in a salad with corn and chopped red peppers. I wonder how they stack up nutritionally to other types of beans.

I love baked beans (really sweet varieties), vegetarian baked beans (on toast), black beans, red beans, pinto beans,...

They all have their place.

Tried black beans, but couldn't get into them at all. So reverted back to Heinz Baked Beans again, but with smaller portions this time round.

Everything in moderation is my motto.

You don't need to add a whole bunch of meat and dairy to make black beans flavorful. If you cook them from scratch with some salt, cumin, plenty of fresh garlic, and some red wine vinegar they are awesome and quite healthy too.

Black beans are awesome! We have them several times a week, usually as part of another dish. I will make baked beans for a special occasion but the hot & smokey beans that are our favorite have too many unhealthy ingredients to be more than an occasional treat for a barbeque. I will still buy the Heinz beans if I have a craving for beans on toast but that's a rare treat as well. Without going into TMI, my body really likes the fiber in black beans without any unpleasant side effects.
