yum! Homemade is the best!

After a friend gave out the recipe, nothing beats the home made version of birch beer. I love it with french vanila ice cream too!

I love birch beer. I used to have it as a kid in a particular restaurant. Even then, it wasn't widely available. A pizza place I sometimes frequent has it, and I always order it when I go there.

First time I ever had it was in my late teens at a small "microwave Mexican" place that a friend and I loved.

I still love both birch beer and the restaurant though that location has long since closed.

We used to drink the clear kind as kids. I only know one store that sells it in my area now.

I had never even heard of it until I moved to NY, and then I tried every brand available. I loved all of it, even though I am not big on sweet drinks, or pop.
I would get it every now and then as a treat, and I did prefer the clear. Can't remember my favorite brand(s). Boylan I remember as good, and Kutztown I remember as being too sweet.

I had never heard of it until a couple of months ago when I found it for sale at the local Ace Hardware store ( go figure). It tastes OK, but I spilled some on the kitchen counter and it stains really bad.

I was raised in Western Pennsylvania and we had birch beer. I've had both brown and clear, but I never saw red birch beer. I liked it.

Talking On the other hand, I recommend avoiding the Björk.

Icelanders use birch in their "Birkir" schnapps, a tasty and high-proof beverage. I've also tried the Björk, but thought it was too sweet.

Birkir is sold in the USA, but unlike Brennivín, very few American retailers carry it.
