While they came out looking good with a nice crispy crust no one in the family liked them, i'm guessing its an acquired taste that i wont be making again to acquire that taste.
... battered and fried lightly, placed on a napkin to absorb the excess oil, salt/pepper, they have a sharp taste, definitely tomatoes taste, sorta like onion rings but less greasy. egg plant is yummy this way too. even cauliflower.
Oh man, my Mom made the BEST fried green tomatoes! She learned how from her Irish grandmother, who taught her all the domestic arts in a 100 year old kitchen. I still remember those tomatoes 50 years later.

When the movie came out, I tried them once. That was enough.
What does a cooked green tomato taste like anyways?
In my case it tasted like what youd expect a green tomato to taste like,bland and tough,only difference was the crispy crust that came with dipping the 1/4 inch pieces of tomato in egg then flour then breadcrumbs then frying it.
a local lunch stand sells fried green tomato, bacon and lettuce sandwiches on Texas toast with horseradish dressing. They sell more of those than they do cheeseburgers. Delicious!!!!

certainly are not at the top of my list, but we do enjoy them once in awhile. I bought some frozen ones, from a frozen food store here, they were terrible.
