Filet of beef and shrimp off the grill, homemade baguette, big salad. Some antipasti first, cookies and sippin bourbon for desert. Wine out of SO hidden stash.
We follow the traditions of my Danish great-grandparents. Our big Christmas meal with all of the family was always on Christmas Eve. We would exchange presents with the grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. We would also dance around the tree, another Danish tradition. That was just holding hands while walking around the tree singing carols. It would be lovely seeing the Christmas lights on the 20 minute drive over and back from my grandparents'. I'll always remember the cool, crisp air and bright stars every year we made the trip. Christmas Day we stayed home and opened Santa's gifts and had everyone over to our home usually for roast beef. Friends would stop over at night to see the gifts.
Now my husband and I are by ourselves for Christmas. I still have our big turkey dinner on Christmas Eve and have leftovers on Christmas Day and a few days after that.
Had Arroz con Pollo (rice with chicken). I don't normally do anything special Christmas Eve, but it worked out that way thus year probably due to the weekend Holiday.
We had a 3 foot Italian hero, tortellini primavera, Swedish meatballs, rice pilaf, shrimp cocktail, Hawaiian sweet rolls, corn bread, Antipasto, BBQ ribs. Flourless chocolate torte made by a friend. Everything was catered except the meatballs and rice which I made.
