Cajun boudin. We're spending New Year's Eve/Day with Cajuns.

I'm going to ring in the new year at Snowshoe Mountain. A friend invited me to go snowboarding with him. I'm hoping to get back in time to have New Year's Day dinner with my uncle. Kraut and weiners and mashed potatoes and fried apples has always been our traditional New Year's Day dinner.

Working until 10pm NYE then out with friends downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Brunch at a restaurant with bottomless mimosas or aperol spritzers.

NY Day it'll be black eyed peas cooked with hog jowls and/or hocks or neck bones. Greens (collards, turnip, & mustard), and cornbread. Pretty much the same thing my family's had on New Year's Day for generations.

NYE we usually shuck oysters & drink good champagne. (Good, not fine. I'm saving that case of Salon.)

New Year's Eve, we are having what we call the "big sandwich" basically a dagwood type sandwich built on a split loaf of French bread. Shrimp cocktail, whatever chips and dips catch our eye in the store. New Year's Day is always pork, sauerkraut , mashed potatoes and applesauce. The New Year's Day menu has been the tradition in our family for generations.

It will be Hoppin' John(black eye pea jambalaya), Glorified Cabbage, Roast, Grilled Red fish, salad, bread and deserts. The first two are a must have tradition for the New Year.

P.S. Blood sausage aka Red Boudin is a white rice dressing mix stuffed into casing with pork meat and rice, blood from the meat is added hence the name. It is yummy and hard to find. Enjoy!

I eat British blood sausage (black pudding) - oatmeal instead of rice. The boudin we're having is rice, seasoning, pork butt, pork liver, onions, celery.
