I'm an elk hunting widow right now. Usually that means treating myself to some of my favorites and going out to lunch with friends but I was struck with the first case of flu I've had since the 1980s and haven't eaten much of anything for over a week.

I finally got out of the house, and while I'm not hungry, thought I should eat some solid food today. So I bought a New York strip steak, fresh button mushrooms and a bacon, cheddar, sour cream stuffed potato which I'll fix tonight with a toasted English muffin.

I want comfort food so I also bought some dried beef which I'll put in a cream sauce and eat on mashed potatoes later this week. What's with the dried beef? Ugh. Looks like ground up killing room floor sweepings that have been molded back together and sliced.

Certainly there must be an old-fashioned butcher shop selling the real deal.

Wow! Some great meals listed!

Crisis in pickle household means greasy take away in the form of a Whopper meal.

Not decided yet so cooked up rice and potatoes - I can go either way.
Maybe chicken curry - again (need the rice)
Maybe pork cassoulet (need the potatoes)

Sorry, pickle, but a Whopper does sound good.

I'm making thick-cut pork chops, homemade apple sauce, cole slaw, and pop overs with butter and cherry preserves. And I should be studying for my final!

I'm hoping my cole slaw turns out well as I continue to try to up the vegetables we eat. I'm using red and green cabbage, carrot, daikon, sweet onion, and maybe some japanese pink radish as well.

That cole slaw sounds like it is going to be wonderfully tasty Debsi!

I have a pot of chili simmering on the back of the stove. I will serve with the usual suspects. I was going to make cornbread but I am feeling a little lazy. I did make chocolate chip cookies this afternoon. The boys can have those for dessert.
