Well, it's finally happened. Somebody answered my question about food preferences and allergies with a problematic result.
Gluten and cow dairy free. She's already offered to bring desert, which I quickly and gratefully accepted.
I'm not that familiar with gluten free. Cow dairy means no milk, cream, yogurt or cheese, I guess?
So I'm not making lasagne, huh? Am I really limited to plain meat, plain vegies and roasted/baked potatoes? PS - there will be 8 people at this little dinner party!
You could do something like stuffed peppers with a green salad.
It sounds more difficult than it is, but really you have to be a little creative. You'll have to use margarine or olive oil instead of butter, and rice or quinoa or potatoes, etc. instead of pasta/bread
we actually eat gluten free all the time its not that hard ( we have no dietary restrictions)-
any Mexican cooking - use cornmeal tortillas instead of flour... and skip the cheese or have the cheese in bowls on the side, and she can have a bowl of soy cheese...
(actually no cow dairy has become so en vogue that theres a brisk industry in goat and sheep milk cheese, and pasteurized goat milk too)...
example- BBQ ribs, fries, and a salad.
Fried fish (use cornmeal breading) and hushpuppies, three bean salad.
Your meat and potatoes idea is fine-- its cold here- good for a big pot roast meal (serve rolls on the side/ cornbread muffins for her)...
Lemon and rosemary roasted cornish game hens with rosemary and olive oil roasted potatoes and whatever veggies looks good. A nice salad to start and some good crusty bread with butter or olive oil.
Gluten is also in a lot of packaged foods bottled sauces etc. If you are using anything other then whole foods (i.e. raw unprocessed meats and produce) then make sure you check the labels. Of course I think 90% of people that eat gluten free (myself included) are not Celiac and don't necessarily have an adverse reaction to gluten.

Gluten and cow dairy free does not mean plain meat, plain veggies, and baked potatoes.
You could do a lasagne, but you'd be substituting most of the ingredients and I suspect you would be unhappy. What are some other recipes you enjoy making? Perhaps we can help with making adjustments and substitutions.
