I bought two loafs of bread and I open the second loaf, and the bottom of the bread is all soggy. What is this and why? I'd hate to waste this bread. It hasn't gotten moldy, but its still soggy.

Because prior to delivery to the store the bread was frozen.
I was at HEB a huge chain in Texas and the bread guy was restocking I noticed the condensation on the bread and asked him what's up with that?

They freeze most of the bread after its baked to insure freshness.
Like someone said in the other thread. When the smaller bakeries merged and move to a larger location that's when this occurred.

These were Pepperidge Farms, Oro. Wheat and many other well known breads.

This is almost all bread locally available. The Bread guy confirmed this to me.

Cheap *loaves of high-moisture preservative laden bread packaged in plastic will distribute and redistribute the bread's moisture as the storage conditions in the product's unnaturally long shelf life change.

To avoid this, buy real, natural bread.

I don't know if I'd call butternut bread cheap.
