Sounds yummy! I'll be on the lookout for them, especially if it's priced at several for a dollar!

They negate high blood pressure meds. Don't eat grapefruit if you are on these meds.

I used to love grapefruit but sadly, like CSD610, I cannot have it ever again either for medical reasons. Good cautionary - grapefruit apparently is a problem with quite a few medications.

one website says:

Quote:
The Cocktail Grapefruit is a cross between a Mandarin and a Pummelo. It tastes like a grapefruit/orange combination and is sweeter and less acidic than regular grapefruit.
Wikipedia says

Quote:
It was developed at in the 1950's at the UC Citrus Experiment Station, but then escaped into public orchards. It is a white-fleshed tri-specific citrus hybrid between a 'Frua' hybrid mandarin ('Dancy' mandarin × 'King tangor'), and a Siamese Sweet pommelo. This makes it 1/4 King tangor, 1/4 Dancy tangerine, and 1/2 Siamese Sweet Pommelo. Mandelo stands for its ancestors mandarin and pommelo.

I am moving to Texas over grapefruits
Ours are more like $1.50/each

You reminded me that when I was a kid we frequently got canned grapefruit in our school lunches. And at home we had a set of grapefruit spoons in our silverware drawer and used them often.

I love grapefruit... too bad those of us who take a prescription statin for cholesterol control (e.g., Lipitor, Crestor, Pravachol, etc) are not supposed to eat grapefruit. Apparently the grapefruit causes the medicine to stay in the body longer...

A couple of my local farms have trees and they're a treat. When they're in season they're easy to find, and not too expensive. But they're so sweet that I wonder why I wouldn't just buy oranges instead. For grapefruit the Oro Blanco is actually my favorite. All the grapefruit flavor without the tartness.

That depends on the med.

I have to thank the people in this thread that issued the warnings about grapefruit. I am taking one of the meds mentioned as a problem (not a statin) with grapefruit and had no idea of that issue. i knew about statins, and consequently DH has limited his grapefruit consumption. And I've been eating A LOT of grapefruit since I discovered the sugar free containers at Walmart.

So, I'll finish the last container then say a sad, tearful goodbye.
