However, you have to make sure that it came from a "calve".

Yum! My mother used to make it, though without the flour.

When I was a kid we had that once a week at our house. Liver and onions, mashed potatoes, biscuits and gravy. I ate everything BUT the liver and onions.
Couldn't stand it then and can't stand it now.

Was pleased to read that the OP enjoyed the meal!

My taste buds run a different menu. Yet I can respect folks who delight in a food that keeps them fueled.

When I was. Pregnant...Liver and onions were my craving!! Couldn't eat enough. It was a sure sign I was lacking some nutrient it provided. Now I can't stand the aroma or the texture. I agree with Steve MCD...Asparagus and liver are a parents go to to ire a kid..

I miss deviled kidneys on buttered toasts for breakfast. I need to make a trip to England.

One of my favorite memories of my mom is when the two of us would go to Morrison's Cafeteria so that she could get her liver & onions. She never fixed it herself because she was the only one who liked it, but she enjoyed eating it occasionally. I would have a bite of hers and didn't think it was bad at all, but don't know if I could eat a full serving of it.

My maternal grandfather was English, and as a result he was a big fan of kidneys for dinner. However, my maternal grandmother was Prussian, and while she refused to eat kidneys, she would occasionally prepare them for grandfather.

According to my mother, the entire house smelled like the world's biggest, dirtiest urinal when her mother was boiling kidneys for her father. NOBODY in the family would eat them except for her father, and everyone was borderline-nauseated by the cooking odor.
