Tuna in a can to put on crackers or bread when ready. It comes in handy kits. No need for refrigeration.

Peanut butter and jelly is fine. Sometimes I will make a bunch of them in advance and freeze them, taking one out each day before I go to work. Good as new after they've thawed.

Oh! Gotcha...still in the can. Well, not in a can, he wouldn't be able to open it. So...the pouches. You know, I tried one of those once. Too hard to get it all out! It seemed awfully wasteful to me.

Cans are fine. You just need one of these...

You can get 2 of the larger P51's at Wal-Mart for about 1/2 that price. Believe me they work great.

I once asked a woman who works in food safety for the CDC about jelly kept out at room temperature. She said no way; they use jelly to grow mold cultures...

Try this 2/3 of a s'mores sandwich, just spread each one on it's separate slice (needs a little more PB):

I also like cream cheese and jelly sandwiches, don't know how long the CC will last.

Why not freeze at least one of your bottles of drinking water then pack it with your wrapped sandwiches/food in a large ziplock bag, then put that in a backpack etc.

As the ice melts, you'll have cold water to drink whilst keeping your food cold.

When we were kids, we had PB and Fluff on crackers and they were called Butterflies. Some parts of the country don't even carry Fluff. Couldn't find it out West.

Not unless you consider agar compounds to be "jelly." Laboratories use agar compounds, like Malt Extract Agar (MEA), suitable for the molds they are sampling. While jams/jellies will grow mold, they are not effective culture media because of the acid from the fruit and the sugar acting as a preservative.

Spread the peanut butter on both sides of the bread and put the jelly in between. Keeps the jelly from soaking into the bread. I've made many PB&J's that were packed in a backpack and eaten later with no ill effects. As a matter of fact the warm peanut butter makes it extra gooey! But I like the idea of freezing an extra water bottle to keep things on the cooler side.

And on white bread =
Oh, you need Fluff, Fluff, Fluff to make a Fluffernutter.
Marshmallow Fluff and lots of peanut butter.

Shelf-stable tuna comes in packages with crackers but it isn't very much of a lunch - more like a snack.

Some tuna comes in a pouch, varying flavors. (I just use the plain albacore). If one opens the pouch, after tearing across the top, cut down the long sides and it's easy to empty the pouch.

I agree with the frozen bottle of water, or iced tea, or lemonade. As long as it isn't carbonated.

Avoid mayo, eggs, meats.
