Eating raw oysters is a walk in the park.

On the other hand, I've decided that if they are raw, cold, and writhing in pain (basically what shucked oysters are doing), I'm not sure I want to participate in eating it.

So yeah. Moving on to other food choices. Pass the pasta with pesto, please.
They move? Do you mean to say they are squirming on the half shell?

Fresh oysters do clamp their shells a little tighter when you go in with your oyster knife. That's how you're sure they'll be fresh & tasty!

Squirming? Doesn't happen

I don't think ClaraC has (or wants) any experience with oysters!

I got food poisoning once, and I do believe it was from the oysters...but not the raw ones.

I ordered a 'seafood sampler' platter one time, and it had fried oysters on it. The oysters were SOOO salty, like almost as if someone dumped a salt shaker on top of them. I ate one or 2, but couldn't eat the rest.

I really think it was the fried oysters that made me sick. I tend to think whoever cooked them up knew they were past their prime, and tried to disguise the flavor with all the salt.

I tried it once a long time ago and the texture and sensation was like eating snot, so nasty.

Grilled tasted much better.

Oysters do feel pain. Only slightly more than when you dismiss the tutorial paperclip from Microsoft Word, though.

I've had minor food poisoning more times than I can remember. What's a little vomiting and diarrhea in the grand scheme.

Me too. I'm an adventurous eater. I've eaten things that my body rejected before I left the restaurant (actually, four of us suffered during that particular episode).

Ooh, then you should try a McDonald's Shamrock shake next March! I had my first one this past March, because it was a new flavor, with chocolate. I was pretty nearly unconscious for the last 50 miles home & my entire gastrointestinal tract had an out-of-body experience for at least 48 hours...think I saw Jesus, too.

Reminds me of the dirty water hotdog (with everything) that I had in NYC. I think I'll stick with the oysters!
