Not at all. In fact, it's just the opposite. The overwhelming majority of the times I've eaten out over the last five years, I've been hugely disappointed. Food isn't made with care anymore. It's assembled. Service is rarely real service anymore. It's a paycheck. Even the patrons in restaurants these days aren't the same. They're selfish, rude, unappreciative and inconsiderate of others around them.
Rarely is eating out enjoyable to me anymore.
To be fair, however, I love to cook. I'm not a chef and I probably wouldn't win any awards, but I'm pretty good at it and folks really enjoy eating my food. I love cooking with real food (no cans of Cream of Anything in my home). I love making food not only from around the world, but throughout time itself. (Victorian, Edwardian, Tudor eras, the Great Depression, etc.,) Lately, I've been making a lot of food from very simple villages that cook outdoors. (Sri Lanka, India, Cambodia, etc.,)
Anyway, cooking is fun for me. I've never owned a microwave and still make my own bread and butter by hand each week. So, the more I eat out, the more I appreciate cooking at home. And I can make that $20 - $30 I'd spend in a restaurant last a week (or close to it) by spending it on groceries instead.
Most times that I cook a complicated or time-consuming dish -- no matter how much I know that I love what I'm making -- by the time I'm finished making it, I have zero interest in eating it. The next day? Absolutely! But the day that I've done the work making it? Nope.
I know, right? Like, the day after Thanksgiving is my favorite meal of the year.
I am very bored and uninspired by my cooking. Even though I try new recipes a lot, they still fall into the same basic categories.
I should go to more restaurants for variety, but I don't seem to. We've got an Indian place right down the street, but I never get any enthusiasm from the hubster.
No, but I'm a pretty good cook if I may say so myself. That said, I still eat order out a few times a week as cooking is time-consuming (at least for the meals that I like to prepare).

I love the traditional Thanksgiving meal so much that I make it two to four times a year! I happen to love leftovers and am the king of making really good meals from them!
I ate a Thanksgiving meal at a restaurant once. It was so dull and generic. I don't know how it works, but I'm convinced you can taste a cook's love, personal touches, and passion in their food. Which also means you can tell when it's not there, too.

I feel a lot like you in many ways, although I don't make my own bread and butter, or dabble much in foreign recipes.
I feel that most restaurants are a huge disappointment, so when we find one that is really good, we tend to keep going there. We just went to Paula Deens new one in Savannah and it was super good. Another is the Chart House, which is part of the Landry group. What really irks me is when a restaurant fails to make something simple, well. I have yet to get a decent BLT for lunch anywhere, except Arby's, and the last time we went out for breakfast the bacon was burned, the hash browns were soggy and the coffee was weak. Really? How hard is it to fry bacon?
Not so much being sick of my cooking as being sick of cooking!
I really make better food than most restaurants. But there are a few places whose food we like. So, yeah, sometimes I'm sick of cooking or DH is hankering for something I don't make, so we eat out. We eat out now more than we ever did before we retired.

Yup. Like, I make a mean taco salad, but how about we just go to Tijuana Flats and I don't dirty a bunch of dishes? Hubby loves Chinese, but I'm lukewarm about it. He can go get it anytime, and I'll just groove on the unsullied kitchen.

Did you ever add up the number of dinners ( let alone breakfasts and lunches) you've been responsible for planning in your life? I've been married, to someone or other, for 51 years. 51x360=18,360 dinners that I've been responsible for. Long about 15,000, I began to get a bit tired.
