OMG, reminds me of my father when I was growing up. We would be at the local Denny’s & if he didn’t get his coffee refilled quick enough, he would take his cup behind the counter, grab the pot & serve himself.
*Mortified teenager running to car to hide out*
But in this case, with the staff asleep like creatures under a spell in a fairytale, there's no reason to be mortified. In fact, it's a chance to fry up those two extra strips of bacon you wanted.

You mean Marcia's Dad? I didn't get the feeling that he demanded anything. The waitstaff walks around doing refills but, when they're super-busy, that gets pushed off to when they're not super-busy.

Nah, it was a small town, everyone knew each other, that Denny’s was always really busy, & he was a hard-working man who needed a lot of caffeine & loved his coffee.
But, being a teenager, you feel like everything your parents do is weird.

I've done that.
Most embarrassing thing I've done, not for me I couldn't care, is eat off someone's plate. I was out with my girlfriend and we got to talking with the table next to us and they had half a piece of cheesecake they were leaving. It was good.
