I LOVE Brazil nuts. If I ever buy a package/jar of mixed nuts, which is extremely rare, I purchase it mainly for the Brazil nuts.
If you like most other kinds of nuts I would think you would like Brazil nuts. They are definitely worth a try if you have never had them. I would say they taste most similar to macadamia nuts but are larger and "meatier" in size. They have a pretty mild but good taste and are good for you!
I always hated that they are pretty much triangular in shape and difficult to crack. I used to love eating them as a child, but Brazil nuts and Cashews now...ugh. They are very ‘rich’ tasting to me and I just can’t. I eat mostly Pecans and every so often, almonds and pistachios.
If your brazil nuts taste bad they are probably old and rancid. Fresh brazil nuts taste kind of like coconut.
Definitely tastes similar to coconuts just nuttier. My wife hates both Brazil nuts and coconut so there is a definite similarity. I get them shelled in 5oz bags at Walmart Grocery. Eat them as a snack at work. I like all nuts but Brazil nuts are one of my favorites.
We kids would fight for the Brazil nuts, likely because of their size rather than their taste.
To me, they taste nothing remotely like coconut. They are dry and honestly, somewhat bland. Even so, I'm always delighted when I spot one in a bin of mixed nuts. With other nuts, I pop the whole thing into my mouth. With Brazils, I nibble and scrape with my teeth, making them last as long as possible.
As I recall (it's been months since I had one), the texture is reminiscent of macadamia nuts . The taste also reminds me of coconut with a bit of hazelnut thrown in, and what I'd call slight woody and chemical or medicinal overtones which are probably why some don't care for them (they're not my favorite, for sure).
