I know when I cook there are certain foods that I think belong together.

One is when I make a ham steak for breakfast. I always make it with wither pancakes or french toast. I just think ham steak and maple syrup go together.

Another is applesauce and pork chops.

Pinto beans and collard greens. Black eye peas and rice. Steak and baked potato. BBQ beans and fried cornbread. Turkey and dressing.

Beyond that it's hard to think of a combination where one just seems incomplete without the other. But I've never done the pork chops and apple sauce combo and never understood that line from Brady Bunch.

Steak & Lobster

Grandma used to make Pork Chops in a sweet & sour fashion

She would brown them in a cast skillet, top them with sauerkraut then
applesauce. add a bit of water cover and into the oven.

A hot dog with onions. (One rare exception - when they have cole slaw available.)

Italian beef with giardinara.

Fried chicken and corn (though Cole slaw is a reasonable substitute)

Any Chinese food that doesn't have noodles needs white rice.

Steak and cabernet.
