Have you ever made a mistake in a recipe and served it anyway? How confident were you that it would still be well received?
Tonight I was making some spinach dip for an office potluck tomorrow. Made it like I always do ... frozen chopped spinach (thawed and the water squeezed out), diced artichoke bottoms, Knorr Vegetable Dip Mix, plain Greek yogurt, and light mayo. Except as I was mixing it, I realized it had a sweet smell that I wasn't expecting. Great googly moogly! I didn't get plain greek yogurt, I got vanilla!
I tasted it, and it didn't taste bad. But I think I'm too ticked off to be objective. I'm going to have a coworker taste it when I get to work in the morning. If she crinkles her nose, I'll run to the grocery store and buy some pre-made spinach dip. LOL!
So what recipe OOPSes did you end up serving? Stumble on any happy mistakes?
A real disaster, I would start over or make a quick run to the market, a small one, I would serve it anyway. Now vanilla yogurt versus plain yogurt I would consider that in between major and minor error.
So no problems with the spinach dip! My testers told me that anyone who wasn't aware of the mistake would never know, and from what I could tell, they were right. One of the people I did tell told me she likes my version better than the usual recipe.
American palates are trained to eat a lot of sugar. Your dip will probably taste fine to your guests
Oregonwoodsmoke, I see you live in North Idaho. I lived in Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry in the 70's. I loved it there, particularly the very distinct seasons!
Vanilla yogurt has a lot of sugar. It's sweeter than plain, which has no added sugar.
