Looking for chef's and utility, european style, interested in Henckels or Zwilling (or are they the same company now?) I have difficulty finding a chef's knife that is comfortable to use, so wondering also if there are any recommendations out there. I am female and hands are on the small side.
I realize that it might work best to try some out in a store for the feel, but hope to hear from some experienced online shoppers. Hoping for better prices online, but still reliable quality.
Dexter-Russell and Victorinox are good knives that won't break the bank.
If you have a kitchen store like Sur La Table or William Sonoma in your area, go in and try different knives to see what feels right to you. Sometimes these stores will have an area where you can try out the knives on vegetables.
All you really need is a paring knife, a utility knife and chefs knife to start and a bread knife if you eat unsliced bread, rolls, etc.
Zwilling Henckels has an online store. Good deals on knives sometimes in the clearance and sale sections. The have 7 & 6 inch chef knives if you want to start with something smaller. https://www.zwillingonline.com/
https://www.zwillingonline.com/310211605.html This is a 6" chef's knife with a big discount , maybe because most people go larger. It would be good to start out with.
Stay away from the Henckels International line.
Basically look for the Henckels with the twins on the blade.
I have several Henckels I'm very happy with but I also have some Dexter-Russells that are excellent for their purpose.
Well... no help from me then, I'm a Japanese knife guy. Used a Gyuto (chefs) and it was like someone flipped a switch and I could finally see. I adore the lighter weight and laser like precision they offer.
Best I can offer is that you should be Very careful about ordering online and during your research. Lots of fakes, some "authentic" but made in China/lower quality offerings. If you're ordering online without trying, check the return process, but it's Really best to get your hands on some examples so you know what feels best. What works best for you is the Most important thing.... the most highly rated and best reviewed knife in the world, if it's too large/unwieldy for you, will be unused (and possibly hated).

Love our Henkels from Costco, full set ran about $150. Bought about 10 years ago and still loving them. Any knife needs to be regularly sharpened. You can also check out any restaurant supply store, they have good options.
I have a few Minonokuni knives I ordered off of Knife Merchant... Very well worth the money. If you want a good set of knives on a budget though, I second IKEA. We have those in our office kitchen, and the're good for what they are.
