There was a commercial for a brand a few years ago wherein everyone thinks the jarred salsa is homemade, and I thought, "How stupid. Who the heck makes their own salsa?"

I've never personally known anyone who did, but I've seen recipes out there. I have tried the "store-made" from local supermarkets, but it's always just kind of meh. The jarred is better.

Maybe I will try this summer when local ripe tomatoes are available.

Do you have any Mexican markets available nearby? I like the fresh salsas in the regular grocery store, but the ones that each individual Mexican market makes will rock your world!

Signature Kitchens Select Medium Chipotle Salsa from Safeway. It says medium but people I give it to seem to think it is spicier. I love the flavor. Please try it if you see it on sale.

I love Herdez. Their salsa verde is so addictive. I remember when it came in the can! I used it as one of my "secret" ingredients when making chili.

Add me as one who makes and cans their own salsa. It's easy and fun.

Default Salsa

The best salsa on earth is Emerald Valley Kitchens Salsa. It comes in a variety of heat, it's organic and delicious.

Good question. Pretty sure we do. There is a town very close to me with a significant Mexican population and I'm pretty sure when I drive down the main drag that the stores lining the street are Mexican-owned businesses and markets. Huh. Might try that.

I've never been wild about Mexican food, but there is a good restaurant in that neighborhood that is often touted as "authentic" by the local and state magazines, and I do like the food there. THEIR salsa is simply wonderful.

Maybe I'll poke around in one of the stores one of these days and check out some homemade salsa.
