I don't think you need to toss eggs... IIRC, they can be kept at room temperature.

Same with butter. I keep mine on the counter. No need to refrigerate if it's real dairy butter.

^^^^^ I agree! Why waste food that looks, smells and taste normal? How many times did you open your fridge during the power outage? Cold food stays cold pretty long in a fridge - it's an insulated box.

That's insane. Eggs don't require refrigeration at all.

From the Egg Safety Center.

https://eggsafety.org/keep-eggs-safe-power-goes/

"Eggs are required to be refrigerated at 45◦ F or lower as soon as possible. Once eggs have been refrigerated, it’s important that they stay that way. A cold egg left out at room temperature can sweat, facilitating the growth of bacteria that could contaminate the egg. Refrigerated eggs should not be left out more than two hours."

You suck a lot of raw eggs, do you? If you want bacteria safe food, cook it.

Unwashed eggs don't. The eggs you get at a US grocery store have been power washed, and they need to be kept cold.

12 hours is a long time...the foods were ROOM TEMP when I finally opened the door....

I followed a govt site on which foods to throw out, as in the thread.

So no waste of money...just avoided food poisoning....

Wrong, as noted above.

I should not have asked anyone, just used the govt site....
