I don't know where you got that idea from, it is pronounced brat. The wurst part is pronounced differently from how you'd expect in standard English though - more of a "voorst"
Bratvoorst
EDIT - There are plenty of sites which have an audio-file pronunciation of bratwurst if there's any confusion. You can even Google an actual German saying it. Brat part rhymes with rat - its just a short a though, not a long drawn out cowboy drawl aaa. Just google bratwurst pronunciation.
That’s not how we say it round these here parts, lol. Here it’s pronounced brot rhymes with hot.

I guess there is German pronunciation, British English pronunciation and American English pronunciation. As long as you get the wurst that's the main thing. Guten apetit!
I'm not a huge brat fan, but we are doing a BBQ for the 4th of July and DH wants grilled brats, Italian sausage and hot dogs. I'll make some peppers and onions for the sausage, and I've bought sauerkraut for the dogs - but what goes on the brats?
And does macaroni salad go with this stuff?
Grilled sausages are something I serve with any sides I'd serve with grilled meats.
Bratwurst pairs well with sauerkraut, a variety of relishes and condiments, various mustards.
I like potato salads, slaws, pasta salads, etc. Just picnic type foods.
