So I spent a couple bucks on a trio of whisks of relatively small size. I find myself using them all the time now. The smallest is perfect for stirring hot cocoa!

And tongs. I bought small and large metal tongs - I always had longer-handled ones, but the small ones are really useful.

I feel like a dumbass for not realizing this sooner!

Yes to the tong love! I love my large tongs so much that I have two pair, and I'm especially fond of my tiny toast tongs that let me get toast out of the toaster without burning my fingers.

But all in all, I probably love my old wooden spoon even more. I don't know how anyone who cooks gets along without a wooden spoon.

One that I reach for a lot is a large metal ladle. I've got two hard nylon ones that I very grudgingly fall back on when the metal one is in the dishwasher, but I will hand-wash the metal one if I need a big ladle rather than grab one of the clean nylon ones.

Oh....my rubber bowl scrapers...bought at a discount store. Use them for cooking almost daily and when mixing foods.

Love the immersible hand mixer, or stick blender. There's no dragging out the food processor for pureeing soups etc.

Yes to tongs!

Tongs and fish spatula. And the silicone headed spatulas for scraping out the bowls. If I had to pick just one I would be suicidal.

I saw something in Bed Bath and Beyond I am going to buy. It is a silicone mat to place on the microwave turn table. Place bowl on top. The mat doesn't get hot. When it is time to remove the hot bowl, just fold Matt up around the bowl and remove.

I like the stick blender, too, even if I do sometimes send things flying off to outer space with it! I love my Mom's old aluminum tongs, with the ends having a sharp edge on them so I can grab anything. Tried to buy myself a new pair and got something that wouldn't pick up anything, even if it was outfitted with all sorts of geegaws like special toggles to shut them, rubber/plastic grabbers, etc. My Mom's old ones just have a ring that slides down to hold them together when you don't want them splayed. Works great.

I am surprised at how many people have said tongs. I had a couple of pairs for years and never used them, so finally got rid of them. I also gave away my stick blender, and I had to google "fish spatula."

I would hate to be without a good vegetable peeler and a rubber spatula, though.

Well I do use tongs—all the time. They are quite useful, and I own two pair in case one is in the dishwasher.

But my most reached for kitchen tool is my chef’s knife. I lucked into finding it about 12 years ago at a TJMaxx. It was a $100 knife priced there at $40.

I use it every day. I sharpen and hone it frequently to keep it sharp and use it for almost everything.

I've had an odd 'wooden spoon' for years. Finally got curious and googled it, it turns out it's a bamboo rice paddle. It has to be one of my favorite untensils ever. I use it to scrape, scoop, flip, stir or mash practically everything.

Small appliance: immersion blender
Utensil: Olive wood spoon with a notched handle, so it sits over the edge of my dutch oven.
