Our belated Christmas dinner has been temporarily put on hold due to an early morning forecast of an ice storm on steroids blowing through from the Rockies.
So far it looks like we could have gone ahead. It is mild, still and soggy outside.
The Mister fooled around in the kitchen. Thought for sure it would be beans. Most of his recipes have beans. No. He fried up five pounds of elk hamburger. Kept some out for barbecues and the rest, as an experiment he said, he mixed with canned green beans and cream of mushroom soup. Um.
I guess we'll be eating that for some time. Sad face here. In fact I've eaten my share of elk for a while. But he's proud of his prize and spent a considerable amount of time and money securing it.
Can't blame him for feeling good about it. I love to have variety in my meals and he's the kind of guy who can eat the same meal days in a row. He grew up in a large family of big eaters and never has changed his style of cooking.
So I invited the Bachelor over for supper and a movie. Imagine the trusty guy can make a good dent in the casserole. He's handy that way - approaching fifty, still eats like a teen and doesn't seem to gain an ounce.
I enjoyed that sour cherry salad I made last week so much that I'm making another. It's one of those Cool Whip type ones and daughter laughs at it but I don't care. All the more for me - a taste of old style.
Tomorrow is DH's birthday. I'll take him to the restaurant of his choice when he's ready. And once the Christmas sweets are low I'll bake him a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.
