I watched a Youtube video in which the topic was "8 foods that Americans no longer buy." The first on the list was cottage cheese. The narrator in the video claimed that cottage cheese has been replaced by yogurt, as a dairy product that's a quick and easy dairy snack and is now preferred by many shoppers. Also cited was the variety of formulas and flavors available in yogurt.

This might be spot on. I can't recall how many years it's been since I bought a carton of cottage cheese. But, I regularly buy yogurt.

I eat cottage cheese, and my grocery store sells a lot of it.

I have both in the fridge, and eat them both. I don't like cottage cheese just by itself, but with fruit or jam on it. Makes a great snack and has protein. I read that yogurt sales are flat, and cottage cheese sales may improve with new varieties coming.

When I did buy cottage cheese, I actually preferred to buy what is called 'farmer's cheese' or 'pot cheese.' I remember that they sometimes were packaged in plastic brick shaped bags, and the brand which I liked was Friendship.

Am not sure if this brand is still available.

I dunno about that report - the supermarkets have tons of different kinds of cottage cheese products which they wouldn't have if people didn't buy it any more. Cottage cheese plain. Cottage cheese that comes with fruit and/or granola. Organic. Lowfat for body building. With Probiotics. There are like 10 different manufacturers that make it. Plus diners and restaurants still have "diet plates" and they almost always include cottage cheese. Yogurt is probably more popular but cottage cheese still has a place.

I really prefer the savory aspect of cottage cheese, which isn't that surprising, since I don't like sweetened yogurt.

I probably agree with you on its popularity but it isn't the same as yogurt to me. Each has its place. I don't see as many using it as in years past. We always have both in the fridge or usually do. The problem? I forget to use it. We are having it tonight with fruit salad. I sometimes have it for breakfast when spoiled brat has cold cereal. We also like it with diced cukes, tomatoes and chopped green onions in the place of salad once in awhile.
