Cream cheese and guacamole go really well together! Especially with a little garlic added to either one.

One time I was out of mayo, so I used butter for a turkey sandwich. It was so good, I now do it on purpose sometimes.

Oh, and this will sound very weird, but one time there was some peanut butter left on the knife I was using, and some of it got on the sandwich I made with mayo. It was so good! I also now do that on purpose sometimes.

EDIT: Dry bread is winning the poll??

I prefer Mayo, mustard, etc.

IF I'm toasting the bread, which is rare, I might put a little butter on it but never on plain white bread.
This might be a little off topic, but one of my favorites things in the world, and I discovered this as a kid, is chicken soup with saltines, or bread, with butter and jelly.

Light mayo, or Miracle Whip. Sometimes mustard depending on the contents of the sandwich. None for chicken or tuna salad though.

Lately I've had such a craving for Miracle Whip, I've gone through several jars. I keep meaning to post about it in one of those types of threads, but people will ream you for liking Miracle Whip. lol

I'm posting way too much in this thread, but I see it's been mentioned that sandwiches with both butter AND peanut butter are exquisite.

No butter on sandwiches for us. We will have either mustard or mayo, or even horseradish sauce, depending on the sandwich. Butter is only used on toast.

Never. I'll put mustard, oil/vinegar, or a relish on a sandwich to slick it up. I've never even seen butter on offer at most delis.

No, I don’t butter sandwiches, except in the rare case when I want to seal the bread from getting soggy.

mainebrokerman, you're an interesting poster. You seem to know a lot about the early phase of food prep. Maybe you ought to write a book. I'd buy it!
