I believe they're classified as ornamental but they look like mini pumpkins to me.

I've accidentally got a patch of them in my back yard. I bet there are a couple dozen on the vine!

No, I only buy a couple each year and the squirrels get into them, so its their yearly treat.

Not sure about how sweet those small pumpkins are, try it and see.

Are talking about pie pumpkins? The only time I'll eat pumpkin pie is if they are made with fresh puree from these pumpkins. Nothing from a can.

The ones that are only a couple of inches across? I believe those are ornamental gourds.

Gourds aren't poisonous if you want to try cooking them. Better yet, make a table arrangement out of them.

My table's not that big!
I'll investigate further. Thanks.

No, those baby pumpkins are true pumpkins and can be used to make anything you'd make with the bigger ones. Try this on for size:

I've seen recipes for pumpkin pie made in them, as well as pumpkin soup.

I had several times the small greenish tiger pumpkins. I sliced them thin, sprinkled with sugar and baked to make chips. Very tasty.
The white and pale green are very tasty too.
I had the very small orange pumpkins stuffed with buckwheat and roasted mushrooms with onions, I also made soup for my GD several times - just the right size for 2-3 servings. The orange pumpkins have thin skin and could be stuffed and baked in an oven. I like the small ones because they make a perfect single serving. They are fully edible. Spinach, bacon, eggplant, mushrooms, rice, beans, grains, couscous, loaded potato - you can stuff them with just about anything. They are also very tasty sweet. Little bigger are great to serve pumpkin soup inside.
They make a very decorative dishes for Fall and Thanksgiving.

Baked seeds are a delicious snack.
