Know exactly how you feel: raised in So. Ca where we had an avocado tree, 3 apricot trees, oranges and grapefruit plus plum and fig trees. Now we can't even afford Apricots. Oh, we had a lemon tree as well.

Maple syrup and Honey are two great ones. Some boutique fruit syrups are OK but nothing compares to real Maple. Most of the syrup sold in stores and provided at diners, especially fake Maple, is utter garbage.

Ever try Manuka Honey? Now that's a premium price!

Manuka Honey is also sold in drugstores for wound coverage. My son was in a motorcycle accident and he had some bad road rash. We put Manuka honey patches from CVS on them and there wasn't even a scar!

I love Skippy Natural Chunky PB. My husband's searched the stores over when I couldn't find it in my regular store. I've tried so many others, but always go back to that one.

I am not a fan of crunchy peanut butter. I am a texture person, so if a food is not smooth or creamy I usually pass. There are exceptions such as ships or crackers though! Vegetables as well!

I think we all stick with what we like from growing up usually. I never knew what mayonnaise tasted like because I thought mayo was Miracle Whip as I was growing up. Mom was from the South!

A Must: Fresh cut beef tenderloin from our local butcher, on special order. Only the best will do for the family's Christmas Dinner. Each year, I expect to pay over $100 for that treat.

Sure, but a quart of Canadian maple syrup is $16.00. In the big picture of food cost, you use such small amounts of it that it is fairly insignificant. I eat 30 minute steel cut oatmeal most days sweetened with maple syrup. A quart container lasts at least a month. An ounce of maple syrup is a ton of sweetener.

We eat a lot of lobster. The fish market in New Bedford where I tend to buy cooked lobster meat is owned by a fisherman with a fleet of fishing boats. It's $30/pound there. Expensive but not outrageous. It's more like $50 to $60/pound at the fish market closest to my house.

I pay a lot of attention to food cost. My girlfriend likes mangos so I buy ataulfo mangos at $1.00-ish per mango when they're available. In season, I'll pay the big premium for local tomatoes and corn at the farmer's market a couple minutes walk from my house. A lot of local swordfish, scallops, and cod.

I buy real Italian parmigiana regiano and grate it myself. I won't eat grocery store domestic.

My cat gets Wellness Core indoor canned catfood that is almost $3.00/can on Amazon. If I cancel the subscription, the price drops to $2.00/can. I'm making Bezos wealthy.

I've been buying Penzey's double strength Matagascar vanilla for decades. With all the crop failures, a 16 oz bottle of it is now $140.00. I've been rationing the last of the bottle I have on hand.

We buy them every year around this time. Also, they will ship them once the weather turns cold.
