... and why do jelly donuts seem to usually come with powdered sugar?
What if you want a cream-filled donut WITHOUT chocolate frosting on top? They're very hard to find!
And there are few things more useless, annoying and messy than powdered sugar! They should ban it!
I think you can more often find jelly donuts without powdered sugar more often than you can find cream donuts without chocolate frosting, but they're still not very common.
I like the angel cream filled donuts. Next up the fruit ones like raspberry or lemon. It doesn't bother me much that it's coated with powdered sugar. I've not seen too many in my grocery store with chocolate frosting.
I can only imagine what is in that "creme" filling. Probably shortening and HFCS.
It’s sold as a mix: sugar, starch, flavorings (that simulate the butter/cream), and emulsifiers. Not terribly unhealthy and the stuff won’t kill people if it sits at room temperature for a day or two.
