I noticed that some customers didn't pay for their shopping right away and the owners would enter each purchase in a book for them to pay later. To the rich it was an element of trust and appreciation, to the poor it was a surviving tool - they could pay when they got their paycheck and sometimes even get some food for free, especially for kids.
Then, the community ties were much stronger.
mom always kept a running account at the local grocery store. She could send us to the store to pick up a few items, not to heavy for us to carry home and we would just tell the manager to put it on her account. I guess she paid it once a month. It worked well, she didn't have to worry about us losing a $5 or $10 bill. Also as someone mentioned, no plastic much period, certainly not bags. They used paper bags and then, when we got them home, the larger ones were used to line the garbage cans that were picked up twice a week by the garbage collector.
Well you can ask, but many of the sauces probably already have salt. Maybe do a stir fry at home, & only use a small amount of sauce & use extra ginger & garlic, chili etc. Are you salt sensitive? Only people who are salt sensitive need to keep sodium intake low.

Well you can buy stir fry veg that are frozen & cook-able in the microwave. Then add Asian sauce of your choice. Water it down if it is salty. Add some cooked protein. If you are serious about cutting out salt, cooking at home is the best option. Most restaurant foods are very high sodium.
As a few have said, most Chinese take-out is not all that healthy, and sodium amounts are one of the reasons. You may ask, but you may hear what you want to hear only to still get food high in sodium. I would think frozen stir-fried meals would be high in sodium as well. Bottom line....Chinese food is not your best bet with sodium restrictions.
