Fruitcakes that are just over a pound and a half are priced at $47 online. I think we will make a pound cake with a few bits of pie cherries and pineapple tid bits!

I don't like fruitcake that much. I've been baking for decades so I'll survive without that.

I love fruitcake! It makes a great hiking snack, too (lots of bang for the buck, and doesn't matter if it gets squished). I saw the little logs out at the grocery, but didn't notice the price; it's not time to buy just yet...

I happened to see a chocolate fruit cake today at the store.
I picked it up and looked at it to check out the size and price.

The price was $17.99 and I think it was a pound, at the most.
It was very fresh and squishy.

It looked good, I almost bought it.

Chocolate fruit cake sounds all kinds of wrong. YMMV.

Veal/eggplant Parmagiana - I’ve been looking all over for a couple weeks now in various stores but haven’t seen either. I can probably understand the veal but veggie. Could that be because of those bugs that are destroying farmers crops this year? I do remember seeing these at my local stores but now it seems like eons.

I knew Bob Evans was doing it too but I had not seen any advertising yet for this from our local Cracker Barrel.
We’ve had some years where my husband and me did our own mini Thanksgiving Day meal. Other times we went to the local Casino Epic Buffet. We don’t really gamble. The path to get there is filled by smokers and the smoke from them is a bit too much for me. Maybe we’ll find a small turkey and gather up some of the other sides to complete. Last time hubby found a decent turkey loaf in the deli of our grocery store. Now I’m hearing all this chatter about not getting meat from the deli because of listeria. Maybe we’re doing gambling after all when it comes to eating? Lately if it’s not E. coli or listeria, it’s finding pieces of metal or plastic.

Wednesday night we are heading up to Blackhawk to gamble, the steakhouse and stay the night. Thursday we'll have HBH turkey and ham, GBC, stuffing, Bob Evans mashed potatoes, and Hawaiian rolls and alcohol. I have everything except HBM, rolls and mashed. Just two of us so super easy. We'll get those the Sunday before Turkey day!

Although my job gave me a 15lb frozen turkey last night. I have no idea of what to do with it lol. I'll try smoking it sometime maybe next year

I bought a dedicated air fryer. I have the 9 in 1 instant pot thing and I think the airfryer lid just didn't do well with crisping things, etc. They would come out soggy. So, we'll see how this Ninja one does. Get it tomorrow and it had very good reviews on Amazon

Default I Feel Like Such a Brat

We're going to a friends' home for Thanksgiving. We've been going there for the past 5-6 years...3-4 orphan couples go. We all have no close relatives so we've formed a kind of family of choice.

We look forward to this every year.

Just found out that unlike previous years our friend is making ham for Thanksgiving dinner.

Her choice, of course. I understand. I'm not wild about ham...but as I said, it's her choice.

Yet I feel like such a baby and feel so disappointed. I guess I'm just really attached to the traditional T'Day turkey dinner. I know, I should grow up. And I will try.

But darn it--I really had my mouth set for all the T'Day turkey dinner stuff (especially the stuffing)! lol

I do have a frozen turkey in my freezer. I'll make it in a couple of weeks to make up for missing it this coming Thursday...that's the grown-up thing to do, yes?

I'm trying.

Please enjoy your Thanksgiving dinners--no matter what you have!! I am very grateful to have friends--and a place to go for dinner.
