Why do so many hate Anchovies? (pizza, tomato, homemade, cheapest)

Always found it interesting how there have always been jokes about putting Anchovies on Pizza yet they still have it. Are there actually a lot of people that do like them? I like them every now and then.
The smell? Lots of people even don't eat raw onions just because they anticipate to be kissed... lol
But the truth is that most places use the cheapest kind, and those are well... not very tasty. AND use them incorrectly. Anchovies are condiments. They are normally used to add flavor, much like hot peppers, and not eaten by themselves.
The best anchovies don't come in a tin. You should buy them packed in salt, then soak in milk or water.
Try a better kind like Ortiz and you might change your mind.
Another thing: I get the impression, based on the rest of the American diet, people here are unwilling to cultivate "adult" tastes and behave like children - only wanting to enjoy the things children enjoy like processed cheese, sugary things or predigested things that don't require any molars or incisors.
Note: the vast majority of people who hate anchovies have never tried anchovies… otherwise, 100% of people would love anchovies.

Now you made me hungry for some and I just finished our shopping for the next week or so.
Some don't like the fishy taste, while others are turned off by the way they look. I like to use them when I make homemade tomato sauce and Caesar salad. I find it gives these dishes a nice little "bite".
Just too salty in my opinion. A well made pizza, just didn't need them. But if you like em, go for it. Just not on my plate. By the way, I do love smoked fish, like salmon, white fish or trout.
i love anchovies.
even more unusual, i grew up in a family where everyone in my family, all of us, my mom, dad, brother and me, all love anchovies.
as an adult i still love anchovies, mmmmm delicious on pizza, either from a restaurant, or added to pizza at home.
on more than one occasion, i have ordered it in a resaturant, yes from the menu, and either the wait staff or the cook has refused to prepare it.
even though it is on the menu. because they dont like it, and either refuse to make it or serve it.
