Bought a mini watermelon last night $2.99
I picked it up and there was a hissing sound in one spot with foam coming out.
I cut in in half and it made a slight pressure released sound. The red flesh looks o.k. but it has a yeasty smell.
I had never heard of it but I found some videos on youtube

here are some comments on a blog, They start in 2006 and go all the way up until 2020

delicious one: the watermelon that spooged

No kidding. The only hissing you hear around here is when I look at the price they are charging for these little gems.

I'd never heard of this before. Freaky!

(I wonder how the microbes get into the interior of the melon in the first place?)

Haven't heard any hissing, but have seen one watermelon foaming last season, so threw it in the compost.

Interesting. Had a couple of good watermelons lately. One was already watery and runny so we threw it away

Through the stem as it's growing.

Ew. I have watermelon in my salad today, the yellow flesh variety, when I saw it I thought it had some kind of awful disease but yellow watermelon is apparently, "a thing" as the kids would say.
