I eat a lot of noodles and agree on Indomie but am surprised no one mentioned Mama or Wai Wai brands. Wai Wai wins for the best packaging graphics with the angry cartoon girl.
I can't tolerate the taste of the noodles in the Top Ramen brand. They might be the worst of the dozens of brands I've tried over the years.
In Thailand "mama" is like xerox or bandaid in USA, the brand has become the word. You go to the store to buy Mama or order Mama from the menu, the actual brand being Mama isn't really as important as the fact it's instant noodles.

My only complaint with IndoMie is that the soy and oil are hard to squeeze out of the little tubes without getting it all over my fingers, but I'll take it.
You can buy the soup base separately. Add sesame oil and garlic. Some receipes do use melted American cheese. I would get udon or soba noodles.
