Potatoes are so versatile. The best that I had were the restaurant fares though. I can't seem to master simple pan fried potatoes, let alone "Bratkartoffeln". Before the Covid-19 lockdown, I had this hash brown stick (see picture) - crispy on the outside and steamy moist on the inside. I tried to replicate it on a skillet with a disappointing result.
How about vichyssoise? I had some once. I had it cold. It really would be better hot even though it's totally uncouth to have it that way.
I don't know if it's uncouth to eat vichyssoise hot. It can be quite elegant as a cold soup. Very easy to make. Cold or hot depends on my mood.
Like others, I love most potato dishes. I particularly like them fried with onions--or maybe with onions and bell peppers. Due to ease of preparation, I eat them most often twice-baked with butter, salt and cheese.
Have to remember to add potatoes to my shopping list.
I can live without chips, French fries, tater tots, hash browns, easily. But put a scoop of mashed potatoes, or, even better, scalloped potatoes, in front of me, and I'm blissfully cleaning the plate.
The potato without question is my favorite vegetable. I like other vegetables but the potato edges them out, due to its versatility and pairing with many dishes. My favorite potato food basically changes constantly like the days in a week.
Mashed potatoes are my favorite food in the world. It will be great when I am old and can't chew or eat many solid foods.
Good point.
