It happens--here's an article based on an investigation by Inside Edition, so you can take that with a grain of salt: https://www.today.com/food/your-lobs...od-real-t73001

If you cut its head off and it runs around the yard, it's a chicken. If it just lies there and flops a few times, it's a fish.

No, they have shrimp. But the reason is all of their stuff all taste the same no matter what is inside the batter.

Fish and chicken can have similar tastes.. Meaning, both rather mild. If you were blindfolded and it was seasoned, and you got a small enough bite.. I could see confusing something like catfish with chicken.

Texture is completely different tho. I see no way you could ever confuse them on that. Again, with a large enough sample.

Now.. Confusing some fish types? Oh yeah.. I mean, there's been TONS of reports on people selling 'orange roughy' that was some other fish.

Chicken and fish don't look the same. They don't taste the same. They don't smell the same. I don't know how anyone could mistake the two unless you've never eaten either one. Even all fish doesn't taste the same.

Almost everywhere on Earth.

Imitation crab or surimi is extremely common, even in areas where crab is relatively cheap and availble.

I would think the only places it is rare are very poor and/or traditional areas where imported food products are rare and crab is caught locally, and places where seafood is not traditionally eaten.

But if you live in a place with supermarkets and electricity, you can probably find imitation crab.

Yup. Look for Krab. That’s the fake stuff.
