Chef Daughter called. Guess we are going to throw caution to the wind and have Christmas together. We've all been well so far so let's hope for the best.

She is bringing "The Silver Fox" to introduce him to us. Sounds serious. Has predicted that we will like him.

Her gift to us will be buying the groceries and preparing the meal, she says. Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes, shellfish gratinee, tossed green salad with bleu cheese, sourdough buns and homemade fresh mint and chocolate shard ice cream.

The ice cream is an Indian recipe she added to her farm stand this summer with success. I can't wait to taste it. Kulfi. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kulfi

She's asked me to make the traditional vegetables - her favorite, peas and onions, and in honor of our immigrant predecessors, mashed rutabaga with butter. I have teensy baby pickled beets and watermelon pickles I did this summer to add to the table.

We've been in Mexico for a couple of weeks and this came up suddenly so there won't be time for the usual spread of Norwegian cookies but I plan to make some spritz to serve with the ice cream.

Such a nice surprise!

I'm glad someone mentioned shrimp, because I forgot to buy it! Can't be Christmas eve without shrimp.

I hosted Thanksgiving, but someone else is hosting Christmas.

The main protein will be duck. The host is making most of the sides, but she is asking me to replicate the baked mac 'n' cheese I made for Thanksgiving, which I will do.

Just picked up my ham and opted for a quarter instead of a half. Their CC machines are down so cash or check only. Not a good day for this to happen. It was getting packed when I left!!

Christmas candy and spiked eggnog. I'll be alone, so what's to stop me? (Amid a sea of couples, families, and gatherings of friends, I thought the solitary City-Data contingent should also be represented here.)

I'm alone and social distancing so no big meal. Going food shopping later. Will look for scallops to sear and some arugula for a salad. Will do a larger feast on January 7th
