What a beautiful crisp morning and all my windows are open.....

Tonight Biersuppe/beer soup and for dessert my apple/banana casserole and a glass of milk.

Beer soup ingredients...

fry diced Bauernbrot/farmer bread in butter til golden brown and remove from pan
let Doppelbock beer (or other strong dark beer),grated ginger and fresh ground caraway bring to a boil
add well beaten egg yolks and starch, stir in the boiling beer
next add a bit of red currant jelly (or quince or black currant jelly) which will slowly melt while stirring
salt/black pepper to taste
for garnish fine chopped chive or green onions

My apple banana casserole....

100 gram soft butter well mixed
3 to 4 small buns ripped in small pieces and soaked in milk and after they are soft squeeze just a bit the extra milk out
4 to 5 beaten eggs
6 to 7 peeled and diced Paula Red,Cortland or Macintosh apples OR 6 apples and 1 sliced banana
125 gram sugar
pinch of cinnamon
juice and rind of 1 lime or lemon (more aromatic with a lime)
Hand mix everything well and put in a buttered casserole dish and bake for roughly an hour in 350 F oven.

I had never heard of banana casserole before, and now I've seen it twice in the past couple days.

Tonight we are having leftover shepherd's pie, that I made on Sunday. I am really looking forward to it, as it was delicious. Plus the weather is cooling, so it will be nice hearty meal.

I had a meatball Parmesan hero and my husband had a cheese steak hero that had steak, mushrooms, onions and melted mozzarella. I only ate half my hero. Saved the other half for my lunch tomorrow. We split an order of fries.
