Last night's pork fajitas were delicious!

Ham and navy bean soup and homemade onion bread.

The bread is the old Lipton onion soup recipe. It doesn't call for much kneading but to get a nice loaf I let my bread machine do the work and then it keeps better and holds it's shape longer. Otherwise it gets crumbly.

I have a beautiful, meaty ham bone. Was just remembering when you could go down to the butcher shop and get free soup bones.

DH always says to put extra beans in the soup so I have a large jar that's already cooked to add near the end. Chef Daughter gave me some special bay leaves she uses to add flavor. A few chopped onions and minced carrots will do the rest.

It will smell good in here today! And tomorrow the soup will taste even better.

I’m making some bone broth today and it offended my frugal sensibilities to pay $5 for 4 beef bones! I do love beans with a ham bone but rarely buy a whole bone in ham. I’d pay for just a decent ham bone with a smidgen of meat on it!

It's nice out, and we may venture forth to go take some pics and stuff. If we do, leftovers, if we stay home.... I am going to try to make crepes. Creamy chicken for dinner, and some sort of citrus ones for dessert.

I meant to pass on a tip I got from my dad. He liked to make soup. He said if you want to thicken, say, your ham and bean soup to used dried potato flakes (instant mashed potatoes) to do it. Works like a charm.

Sprinkle lightly at first because when they thicken it can surprise you.

DH likes to splash a few shots of Tabaco sauce in his bean soup.
