Yes! Got dragged to the first one by my dad who was a drum major for a local pipe band. I ended up really enjoying it - especially Haggis - that was a big surprise. The second one I went to voluntarily because of that.
I actually like the flavor of haggis, but one can attend a Burns night & have fun, without the haggis tasting. Our local one, does a parade of the haggis around the room, with bagpipes, & then it is sliced open with a sword. Great fun to watch. And of course someone will recite the poetry. Looking forward to next years, already
Haggis is one of those things I'd never order voluntarily, but will eat a ceremonial bite of on occasions which require it. If you don't focus on its origins while nibbling, it's okay.
Haggis, plus the potatoes and rutabagas on the side, are traditionally poor people’s food.
Rutabagas? The traditional sides should be tatties and neeps (potatoes and turnips), either separate or possibly mashed together in a smooth puree. Personally I like them separate.
