The supermarkets and stores here have not stocked vanilla Coke for many months. I heard there is a shortage of aluminum cans but vanilla Coke is also available in plastic bottles.

I did find the plastic bottles of vanilla Coke at a few stores such as Walgreens. But it wasn't restocked and there seems to be no more.

I had to resort to buying a couple of cases on amazon.com. Quite a bit more expensive but it is the only source I can find that sells it. Too bad because I like vanilla Coke better than regular Coke.

Does anyone have any info about it? Hopefully, it will reappear.

According to sources Vanilla Coke was discontinued in ... 2005; 16 years ago. Then introduced in 2007; 14 years ago (second run)

Apparently Walmart sells it.

And several other supermarkets.
There could be a presently shortage:

But if you can't find your favorite Coca-Cola drinks anywhere right now — some might not come back

This is possibly a fake news.
But nowadays, who really knows...
Thanks for the info.

The Walmart links shows it is "out of stock."

Since vanilla Coke is available at some restaurants with fountain drink stations, it doesn't make sense to not have it available at supermarkets and other stores.

Fountains operate differently, with what amounts to carbonated water mixed with what look like IV bags of syrup mixed into the carbonated water as it’s dispensed. Look closely at how the fountain dispenses your darker sodas - you’ll see the clearer water almost look like it’s braided with darker liquid as it’s pouring in.

A lot of what you see at stores is mixed and shipped out across the country, though local bottlers still often do the mixing. The distribution practices are fairly separate from each other - at least, from what I gather from my time as a trucker. That’s as much as I know about why Vanilla Coke is perhaps not a common item in stores everywhere, but can be found as a fountain drink.

Personally, Vanilla Coke gave me hella stomach aches which no other soda ever has. Maybe I’m not alone, which is why it isn’t popular enough to stock everywhere?

IMO you get much better results if you just get standard Coke (prefer Pepsi myself) and add some Torani vanilla syrup to it.

Agreed. The Big Boy store that I worked at served cherry cokes, vanilla cokes, and even chocolate cokes using fountain syrups added to plain Coke.

The non-standard varieties of Coke have always been hit or miss with stores. I think for a lot of grocery stores they're a secondary stocking priority, so once they've sold what they got, it will take a while before it gets re-stocked.

The pandemic has definitely made it worse - though I've seen signs that the situation is improving. For a while I found it impossible to find Cherry Coke Zero, but I've seen it in a number of places recently.

The term vanilla was offensive to the BDSM crowd, and also deemed racist, so it was removed from history.

You might be able to make do by buying a bottle of good vanilla extract and adding a drop to regular coke. That should keep you going until your soda is back on the shelves.
