Yes, Walmart should have what's called Pure Vanilla extract. If you look at the link (scroll down), you'll see that there are both McCormick and Great Value Pure vanilla, but there is also Bakers imitation vanilla and it's a whole lot cheaper - stick with the Pure.
As far as butter goes, look for a rating on the package that says USDA Grade A or Grade AA butter - as long as it's real butter and not margarine or another baking blend, you should be fine.
