What is wrong with these Vlasic pickles? (crunchy, consumers, buy)

Today I bought a jar of spicy Vlasic pickles. First I noticed that they were cut in larger segments than normal. Then I took a bite out of one, and I could barely chew through the rind. I ended up cutting it in half length-wise, but even then, it took a bit of force to get my teeth through the rind. I've never had a pickle like this before. Any ideas on what is wrong with them?
Most likely, the cuke was picked past maturity or was diseased. Contact Vlasic to let them know, as it may have affected an entire lot number that they'll want to pull from shelves.

I agree, there must be something wrong with the cucumber... the flavor was fine. I may try reporting it and see what happens.

Reporting something like this is a public service. As long as you are not OUT money for doing so, you benefit other consumers as well as the company, and there is no downside. I've reported things a few times. My intent is to be made whole on my purchase and help others. I so not expect or particularly want freebees for doing so.

I'll give you a parallel. When I was working in operations and a customer called with a complaint about a theatre or staff member, it was always followed up by me. When I found that policy had not been followed, there was correction. A legit customer complaint is a part of the feedback loop that only a fool dismisses.
A few years back, I was shopping at a discount food store and happened to notice a corporate inspection going on. I had been having a problem recently with their store brand potato chips getting soggy, and knew exactly what was causing it (calcium chloride mixed in to the salt). I took the lead aside and showed the problem. Next month it had been corrected. However, that chain of stores missed a huge opportunity in not further following up with me, and having a byzantine complaint process designed to create barriers to complainers. As a consequence, it has lost market share.

Sweet pickles we've gotten lately haven't been very crunchy either. Nobody likes a limp pickle.
I've reported a few quality issues over the years for various things. Most recently with the big box of finish dishwasher tabs missing the 'power ball' on many of the tabs in the box. As usual just resulted in a we're sorry, here's a coupon.
I'm sure it takes a pretty high threshold of complaints to get more done about it as a certain % of problems is tolerated.

Vlasic might. They charge more than other brands and can do that based upon the quality of their pickles. If their quality goes down, they will lose their customer base..
Not many people will pay twice as much for a pickle that is not as good as the economy brand.
I pay a premium price for sweet gherkins and only buy two brand and Vlasic is one of them. If their quality falls, I will stop buying. If both brands fail, I will buy house brand Walmart pickles if they are just as good and half the price. I just hope that Vlasic and Mt Olivel keep the quality up. I'll pay for it to get good pickles.
