Quince is a hard and tart fruit similar to a pear in appearance. It is usually mixed with a lot of sugar and made into jelly or a paste.

My grandmother had a quince tree and always made marmalade with it. I thought it was OK, but it would be my last choice after many other fruit flavors.

I like quince jam. And lingonberry. However, with jam it depends on who is making it. My aunt made wonderful jam. I have got some small batch jams at the farmers market that are good. Store purchased - Smuckers, Knots Berry Farm - is too sweet. I don't think they even try to make it good.
