I know of it through the Little House books (I think it's mentioned in the beginning of "The Long Winter" when Laura is bringing in the hay with Pa and Ma sends them a jug of what Laura called "ginger water" in the book). I've also made it before. It's pretty tasty and goes down really easily and well on a hot day.

I find the stuff positively foul tasting. It was around on the farm in the 1950s. Might as well put a pickle in your ginger ale. Blecch!

Really? I'm glad to have that input. Jack LaLanne would have approved, no doubt And all those other old-tymers hawking health stuff on TV and in magazines.

Maybe they didn't use enough sweetener, or any at all? From things I've read it's supposed to taste pretty good. I was planning on using a lot of honey.

I had it a long time ago, like maybe 1976. Ginger was not in it, at least not enough to detect. Just apple cider vinegar and honey, plus water. I didn’t detest it but would pick something better to drink if available. Seems like it is mainly for hydration; if I tried it again I would add some table salt to it.

Try it!

Oh that's interesting. Maybe honey and salt.

I took it to be something that was cheap back then, but these days it would be for cleaning and toning the system.

I've done the ACV, lemon and honey thing. I would think adding ginger and salt would be an added good flavor.
